July 2, 2018: Michel Deelen, the head of Netherlands representation in Lagos has said that his country would be willing to join hands with the Nigerian government in improving Lagos’ transportation system as well as managing the city’s traffic challenges. He commented during a visit to the ministry of transportation.
Speaking on water transportation, he said the state must understand that a lot of infrastructure is needed to service the water transport system, to make it functional. Lagos and the Netherlands share a lot of similarities in terms of population, size and closeness to the coast. He stated that the waterways in Netherlands are dredged yearly to ensure smooth movement on water.
The commissioner for transport, Ladi Lawanson, said he initiated the visit so that Deelen could have first-hand information, which will promote understanding of the areas the two governments could partner for a win-win situation.
