September 21, 2020: Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in its animal holding station handled 20 goats and 25 sheep, which arrived from South Africa. Singapore Airlines facilitated the precious cargo shipment from Johannesburg.

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) revealed on its LinkedIn page.

The animals were moved to various farms in Kajiado, Narok, Makueni, and Nyeri counties.

In August, KAA facilitated the holding of 44 Dorper Rams from South Africa and a part of the day-old chicks journey as the broiler parent stock moved from Amsterdam to Kenbrid Farms Naivasha, through KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

The authority has recently refurbished the facility to hold more animals and enhance transhipment of live animals via JKIA. The authority is targeting to obtain the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Centre of Excellence for Individual Validators (CEIV) Live Animals certification.
