Kenyan standard gauge locomotives unveiled
The first locomotives for the initial phase of Kenya’s standard-gauge railway network were officially presented to Kenyan Railways Corporation (KRC) at CRRC Corporation’s plant in Qishuyan, China, on December 16.
Dec 20, 2016: The first locomotives for the initial phase of Kenya’s standard-gauge railway network were officially presented to Kenyan Railways Corporation (KRC) at CRRC Corporation’s plant in Qishuyan, China, on December 16.
The 472km Mombasa-Nairobi standard-gauge line is nearing completion and due to open in the second half of next year.
CRRC Qishuyan was awarded a contract earlier this year by China Road and Bridge Corporation to supply 56 locomotives for the line. The order comprises 43 DF8B freight locomotives, five DF11 passenger locomotives, and eight DF7G shunters.
