August 05, 2019: The much-awaited new terminal at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania was officially commissioned and opened by president John Joseph Magufuli. The international traffic will now be handled through the new terminal, giving passengers relief from the overcrowded old Terminal 2. The new facility is expected to cater 6 million passengers per annum while the overall airport capacity including the old terminals is anticipated to be around 7.5 million passengers.

In April 2014, former Tanzanian president Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete laid the foundation stone of the new terminal.

The old international terminal is now due for refurbishment and technical upgrading and will then be used for domestic flights.
