Bollore Logistics UK secures Cyber Essential certification

It can impact with lengthy periods of disruption costing in thousands and can damage long-term reputations. The majority of cyber-attacks exploit basic weaknesses in businesses IT systems and software.
Bollore Logistics United Kingdom (UK) has obtained the Cyber Essentials certification, a government-backed scheme which provides independent assurance that businesses have the correct systems in place to prevent cyber-attacks. Bollore Logistics UK was assessed as meeting the Cyber Essentials implementation profile [BIS/14/696], therefore at the time of testing, our organisation's ICT defences were assessed as satisfactory against commodity based cyber-attacks.
This new certificate proves that Bollore Logistics UK protects its IT systems against common cyber threats, proves to customers its data security ethics, and enables Bollore Logistics UK to bid for future Government contracts.
The five basic Cyber Essential controls are:
- Boundary firewalls and internet gateways - prevent unauthorised access to our private networks
- Secure configuration – system are configured to be secure
- Access control – only those that should have access to systems can have access
- Malware protection – up-to-date virus and malware protection
- Patch Management – the latest supported version of applications and patches are installed.
Bolloré Logistics UK is constantly researching new technology and software that can be applied to its systems. Our UK team recently implemented ICT changes such as 'BitLocker', a system which encrypts data on staff laptops. These machines also allow the option to encrypt USB devices, so that in the event that they are misplaced or lost, user data cannot be easily activated.
New distribution points are being set-up to deploy patches to computers, plus all laptop users have access to apply windows updates, without the need for ICT Support. Our passwords are now regularly set to prompt users to update at a minimum of 8-characters long, ensuring maximum data security.
With the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation coming May next year, designed to harmonize all EU citizens data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy, the necessary need of protecting our systems and cybersecurity has become a higher priority.
