Bolloré Logistics Portugal transports 25k solar panels to Burundi

June 10, 2021: Bolloré Logistics Portugal has transported more than 25,000 solar panels for the construction of a 7.5 megawatts (MW) renewable energy power plant in Burundi. Carried out in synergy with the Bolloré Logistics teams in Portugal and Burundi, this operation took place in several stages over a period of only four months.

A total of 150 TEU containers were transported by sea from several ports in Asia and Europe to Dar es Salaam, and were then carried by road via a 1,400 km corridor connecting the Tanzanian coast to the Mubuga site, which is located 100 kilometres from the capital Bujumbura, in the Gitega province in eastern Burundi.

Romeo da Silva, CEO of Bolloré Logistics Portugal, said, “Bolloré Logistics is proud to have been able to contribute to the completion of this large-scale project which aims to supply energy to approximately 90,000 people and companies in Burundi.”

Headed up by the multinational Gigawatt Global, this project was awarded Project of the Year 2020 by EEP Africa, the Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund in Africa. It will increase the country’s electricity production by around 15 percent.

This includes support and advice for companies, designing tailor-made transport solutions, and managing end-to-end operations via an integrated information system that provides complete visibility and control throughout the supply chain.
