Seychelles signs EPA with UK ahead of Brexit

Feb 08, 2019: The government of Seychelles has signed an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the United Kingdom (UK) to ensure continuity of trade as Britain prepares to exit the European Union (EU).

The agreement was signed at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London by Beryl Samson, Seychelles' ambassador to Belgium, and UK minister of state trade policy, George Hollingbery.

Seychelles principal secretary of trade and investment, Cillia Mangroo, said that as there was a possibility of a "no-deal" Brexit, the UK would not be granted a period of transition and Seychelles would lose its preferential market access to Britain.

"This will be a huge loss of revenue for Seychelles thus the importance of having the agreement before the March 29 Brexit deadline," she said.
