Construction begins at Takoradi port for Atlantic Terminal’s on-dock facility
The construction of has officially started on the development of the multi-purpose Atlantic Terminal Services on-dock facility at the Takoradi port in the western region of Ghana.
August 09, 2019: The construction of has officially started on the development of the multi-purpose Atlantic Terminal Services on-dock facility at the Takoradi port in the western region of Ghana.
The first phase will involve the construction of a 600-metre quay wall with pavement alongside it. The project will also see the port basin being dredged to create a 16-metre depth.
The $475 million project is a joint venture between local company Ibistek and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GHPA) under a concession agreement signed between the two in 2017.
The Port of Takoradi, Ghana's premier commercial Port, was opened in 1928 to facilitate Ghana's international trade. It is strategically located 225km west of Accra and 300 kilometre east of Abidjan the capital city of La Cote d'Ivoire. It is well connected to its hinterland which makes it the preferred and ideal gateway to the middle and northern parts of Ghana and the Sahelian landlocked countries of Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali.
