August 04, 2020: The Bollore Logistics hub in Luxembourg received a machine to make surgical masks on behalf of ALLPHARMA. The machine was imported from China by Cargolux.

The machine has a production capacity of one million masks per week.

Within a few weeks, Luxembourg-based ALLPHARMA will have six machines able to produce 4 million surgical masks and 650,000 FFP2 type masks per week. These will supply the national network of pharmacies, health establishments, institutions and anticipate needs in the event of a new wave of the epidemic.

Thierry Derochette, director and Nicolas Melicas, head pharmacist of ALLPHARMA stated, “As a partner and pharmacist, we had to have an answer and a solution in order to solve the problem of import dependency for elements that are essential to the protection and safety of caregivers, vulnerable people and of course the population as a whole.”

The new order, consisting of five packages with a total weight of 1,600 kilogrammes was handled by the Bollore Logistics teams in China who worked together to manage administrative procedures and ensure the transport of the packages from warehouses in Shanghai before shipment by air. On arrival, the packages were placed in the Bollore Logistics warehouse, awaiting delivery to the customer.

Marc Hansen, manager, Bollore Logistics Luxembourg hub said, “The Covid-19 epidemic has allowed us to demonstrate the full extent of our ability to deal with complex flows under very tight deadlines. Thanks to the mobilisation of all our partners as well as the commitment of our teams in the field, we are perfectly equipped to face emergency situations and ensure continuity of supply for our customers, whether they are SMEs or large international groups.”

This operation was facilitated by support from partners of Bolloré Logistics Luxembourg, in particular LuxairCARGO, Cargolux and Arthur Welter. Since the start of the crisis, Bollore Logistics Luxembourg has played a major role as a hub for the importation of protective masks and their reshipment throughout Europe. Between March and June, teams handled an average of 70 charters and imported nearly one billion protective masks.
