Sep 21, 2018: Air Austral and Air Madagascar partnership will launch a new route between Madagascar and Reunion from December this year.
Boeing B737-8 will link Reunion’s main airport Roland Garros in St. Denis with the city of Tolagnaro via Toliara, offering a direct connection between the two cities without having to travel via Antananarivo, before flying on to Reunion where connecting flights into the Air Austral network are available.
The service will bear flight numbers of both airlines under an extensive code share deal agreed between the two carriers and the respective governments when Air Austral acquired 49 percent of Air Madagascar in late November last year.
In December 2017, Air Austral has completed the acquisition of 49 percent of the shares of Air Madagascar, following a decision by the government in Antananarivo to privatise the national airline and selecting Air Austral, home airline of neighbouring Reunion, as their partner of choice.
Both airlines are also partnering with Air Seychelles and Air Mauritius in the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands aviation alliance.
