October 1, 2019: Alex Gitari has assumed the office as the acting CEO and MD of Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) from today. He is the current general manager of finance. His appointment follows the exit of Jonny Andersen who quit his position before the end of his term in November.

Gitari’s experience covers a broad range of functions including development banking, accounting, and financial management, treasury management, resource mobilization, business development and marketing, project appraisal, strategy formulation and execution, policy formulation, risk management and management of strategic partnerships.

“I take this opportunity to thank Jonny for his contribution during his tenure as CEO and wish him the very best as he commences the next chapter of his career,” said KAA chairman Isaac Awuondo.

On the other hand, it is claimed that Andersen had a rough patch with the authority during the period he served. He came into limelight during the much-publicised news on Kenya Airways to co-run the airport alongside KAA.

The recruitment process for a new CEO and MD will commence from today. This will be through a competitive process as per State Corporation’s guidelines.
