June 03, 2021: Air Austral operated a B777-300ER from Reunion Island to deliver medical equipment that will be used to set up an emergency camp in Rwanda.This operation was carried out in partnership with the Reunion Island Red Cross and the French ministry of foreign affairs.
Many cities have been evacuated and the local population has undergone a huge loss, one week after the spectacular eruption of Nyiragongo, one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world located in the Republic of Congo.
The Indian Ocean Regional Intervention Platform (PIROI) was activated by the French Red Cross for the deployment of humanitarian aid to disaster-stricken victims.
Air Austral transported 45 tonnes of humanitarian cargo, including 2,000 emergency shelter kits and 4,000 tarpaulins to set up the emergency camp. The aircraft then flew to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport.
