ABP inks deal with Maersk for new trade links
Associated British Ports has signed a deal with Maersk Line
Jan 14, 2019: In a view to open its Hull Container Terminal for deep-sea connections to the rest of the world, Associated British Ports (ABP) has signed a deal with Maersk Line for establishing trade link to the Far East and beyond.
The service by Maersk begins this year into the 21-acre container terminal in Hull which has seen significant recent investment by ABP. The weekly feeder vessels will see ABP handle around 240 boxes per week, equivalent to 12,000 containers per year.
“Unlocking this new trade gateway to the rest of the world is not only significant for the local economy, but also for the national and international economy,” said Simon Bird, ABP Humber director, adding that the company had recently invested £50 million into these terminals including two £10.5-million gantry cranes at the Hull Container Terminal.
